21. A GERMAN RIDING SWORD, 16TH CENTURY

Origin: Germany, 2nd half of 16th century.

Dimensions: length 108,6 cm, blade’s length 91,9, blade’s width 2,8 cm.

Blade: straight double edged blade with two fullers and ricasso.

Hilt: Iron guard with quillons bent down with round ends, a knuckle-guard with two side bows, with round end, not connected to the pommel. Round pommel with cone top. Wooden grip wrapped with iron twisted wire and Turk’s heads on ends.

Scabbard: absent.

Condition report: the blade with pitting from corrosion, areas of dark patina in indentations, some scratches. Guard with some pitting from corrosion, scratches from cleaning, yellow soldering metal can be seen in places. The pommel with natural dark patina, scratches, dents, pitting from corrosion. Grip’s wire in good condition.
