41. A PORTUGUESE DAGGER, EARLY 20TH CENTURY

Origin: Portugal, early 20th century

Length 60 cm. Blade 26,9 cm x 1,7 cm.

Blade: Straight double edged blade of diamond cross-section, with ricasso.

Hilt: the metal hilt is composed from three parts – the side plate, the crossguard and the grip. The side plate is decorated with embossed war trophies, floral motifs and coat of arms. The “S” shape crossguard is also cast with decorative elements. The grip, gradually widening towards the pommel, is also cast with embossed floral and geometric ornaments. Tang screw on the top of the pommel.

Scabbard: Brown leather scabbard with metal chape and mouths. Mouths has a hanger in shape of a shell.

Condition report: the blade in very good condition, just insignificant traces of corrosion. Guard and pommel with insignificant scratches. Leather of the scabbard in very good condition. Scabbard fittings with some scratches.
