145. A BYZANTINE GOLD CROSS WITH SEMI-PRECIOUS STONES, 4TH CENTURY A.D.

Origin: Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium), 4th century A.D.

Dimensions: total length - 36,8 cm, blade's length - ca. 24,5 cm, blade's max. width - 48 mm, blade's thickness - 6 mm. Weight - 283 g.

Gold between 0,986 and 0,999, tested. Jasper, carnelian, chrysoprase and three stones from a group of chalcedony, confirmed by gemologist.

Flat cross, embossed from gold sheet and punched. On each arm and in the middle engraved five triple concentric circles. On three arms there are pendants with stones polished in the form of rolls: jasper, carnelian, chrysoprase and three stones from a group of chalcedony. This shape of earrings is known in Eastern Roman Empire in 4th c. A.D.

Condition report: very good overall condition.
