35. A FRENCH SMALLSWORD SWORD WITH SCABBARD, M1872, 19TH CENTURY

Origin: France, 19th century.

Length – 95,8 cm.

Blade: Straight double edged blade tapering towards the tip, with two narrow fullers. Length of the blade 79,5 cm, width 1,9 cm.

Hilt: Brass closed guard, connected with round pommel. Guard with two folding side plates, one with depicted wreath with ribbon. Grip is wrapped with original brass twisted wire. Original lining between the guard and the blade.

Scabbard: black leather scabbard with brass mounts with suspension hook and brass chape.

Condition report: very good overall condition. Blade in really good condition, just some black spots and insignificant pitting areas from oxidation. Brass handle with natural patina, some scratches and dents. Side plate of the guard folding mechanism in working condition. Leather of the scabbard in good condition, some scratches and worn off. Brass parts with natural patina, some scratches and dents. Upper fitting (mount) is loose.
