47. AN OTTOMAN TURKISH SHAMSHIR SABER SWORD WITH SCABBARD, 18TH – 19TH CENTURY

Origin: Ottoman Empire, 18th – 19th century.

Length 95,5 cm.

Blade: curved single edged blade, richly decorated with Islamic inscriptions.

Hilt: Iron cross-guard with remains of gilding. Wooden grip plates with round bent pommel. Iron tape covering a gap between them.

Scabbard: wooden scabbard covered with black leather, iron fittings with remains of gilding.

Condition report: Blade in very good condition, insignificant scratches and dents, slight pitting. Iron guard with dark patina, gilding worn off. Grip plates broken, repaired, with cracks, scratches and dents. Leather of the scabbard with cracks, scratches. Iron parts of the scabbard with dense dark patina, gilding worn off.
