6. A GERMAN BAVARIAN M1788 SWORD, SO CALLED “RUMFORD SABER” IN SCABBARD, WITH WOOTZ STEEL BLADE.

Bayerische Sabel M1788 “Rumford”.
Origin: Germany, late 18th century.
Damascus steel curved single edged blade, with double narrow fuller both sides, changing into the single closer to the tip. No visible maker’s marks.
Closed steel hilt, three branches, back strap from pommel to the yelman, wodden grip covered with black leather.
Steel scabbard with two bands with carrying rings.
Total length in scabbard – 106 cm; without scabbard – 103 cm, length of the blade – 89 cm; width – 31 mm; thickness – 9 mm.
